Set up your internet

Four steps from cable to your first connection – whether or not you use a router.

Just moved in, or setting up a new device? This page gets you online in four steps.

  1. Step 1: Connect

There is a network socket in the wall of your room – that is your connection to StudNet. Plug your equipment into it. There are two ways to do that:

    • With a router (recommended): Connect the router's blue WAN port to the wall socket with a network cable, plug in the router's power supply, and connect your computer to the router by cable or Wi-Fi. If the router was used before, reset it to factory settings first. Detailed steps are at Connect your router.
    • Without a router: Connect your computer directly to the wall socket with a network cable.

Either way, make sure you use a suitable cable – see Network cable.

  2. Step 2: Register

Open a browser and go to the registration page. If it loads, your device is already on the network – that is enough to register, even though you cannot reach the internet yet.

  3. Step 3: Activate your access

After registering, you'll get an email with an activation link. Click it – your access is not live until you do.

  4. Step 4: Online

Once your account is activated, you're online without any further configuration on the connected device. You do not enter a username on the router — the network gives you an address on its own. Open a website to check.
