The following instructions are tested with:
- Ubuntu Hardy 8.04
- Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10
- Ubuntu Feisty 7.04
For Ubuntu Feisty (7.04) or higher the network manager is already installed. You will need the VPN plugin for PPTP in addition. This is only available within the Universe repository. If it is not yet active on your system, please activate it. Help can be found on Ubuntu help pages.
Install the plugin on the console:
sudo apt-get install network-manager-pptp
Afterwards click on the desktop with the left mouse button on the symbol with the two computer monitors. Select VPN connections and configure VPN.
Click on Add to create a new VPN connection. Select PPTP Tunnel as type and enter a name of the Connection, for ex. StudNet . As Servertype please select Windows VPN (PPTP) and as gateway enter vpn.stw-bonn.de .
Nothing needs to be selected under Authentication.

Within IP Options activate all options. The other options can be left as they are.
